-
1/2 cup plain flour
-
1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
-
1/2 tsp salt
-
Pinch of black pepper
-
1 egg (beaten)
-
Cooking oil for frying (vegetable or sunflower oil)
-
Lemon wedges (for serving)
-
Optional dipping sauces: spicy mayo, tartar sauce, sweet chili, etc.
🍳 Instructions:
-
Prep the squid
Defrost the frozen squid rings and gently pat dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. -
Make the coating
In a bowl, mix plain flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. In a separate bowl, beat the egg. -
Coat the rings
Dip each squid ring into the egg, then toss in the flour mixture until fully coated. Shake off excess. -
Heat the oil
In a deep pan or pot, heat oil to around 170–180°C (340–355°F). Test with a small piece , it should bubble gently. -
Fry in batches
Carefully lower squid rings into the hot oil in small batches. Fry for 2–3 minutes or until golden and crispy. -
Drain & serve
Remove and drain on a wire rack or kitchen paper. Serve immediately with lemon wedges and your favorite dip!
💡 Extra Tips:
-
Don’t overcrowd the pan , it lowers the oil temperature and makes the calamari soggy.
-
Want extra flair? Sprinkle with paprika or parsley before serving.
